Sourcing Locally
Traceable raw hides from local, responsible suppliers.
Quality, suitability, traceability and accountability. In 2021, 53.77% of our rawhides are sourced on our doorstep in Scotland from grass-fed low carbon farms. That’s 79.9% of Scotland’s entire output of prime hides.
We’re reducing our carbon footprint and transport needs, and source over 98% of rawhides from the UK and Ireland.
Our hides come from healthy cattle herds, certified at one of the highest levels for animal welfare by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation.
These rawhides are all a by-product of the beef and dairy industries, and we source them directly from licensed abattoirs that operate under UK and EU regulations, and are subject to daily inspections by Government veterinarians.
We ensure that all our rawhide suppliers comply with the Five Freedoms Principles of animal husbandry, developed by the UK Farm Animal Welfare Council and adopted by animal welfare organisations around the world. Collagen that we produce can be supplied with an Edible Certificate, which enables us to sell on our by-products in turn for use in a wide range of other industries. Just another way we can reduce waste, and avoid landfill.
