Reclaiming Energy
Powering our tannery from within. Meet our pioneering thermal energy plant.
Our patented thermal process converts our waste streams into heat, which powers our tannery, and radically reduces our carbon footprint.
Our thermal energy plant is so advanced, it generates enough energy to heat a small town.
That’s 15,000 MWh of energy per year for our facilities, and an additional 12,000 MWh as oil.
This commitment to clean energy has dramatically reduced the carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) of our leather. Our performance is independently audited to the UK Climate Change Agreement.
As well as our thermal energy plant, all our fleet vehicles are electric - and we provide electric vehicle charging points for staff and visitors in our car parks to encourage everyone to travel a little greener.
When it comes to electricity, we buy 100% from certified renewable and carbon neutral wind sources (100% REGO), and we’ve been doing it since 2017.
Key measurements
Energy generated by our thermal plant
Our thermal energy plant creates 15,000 MWh of energy per year for our facilities, and an additional 12,000MWh as oil.
Our commitments
2021
Our suppliers became signatories to our Code of Conduct.
2022
We will be accredited to the UN Global Compact.
2023
We will have verified the integrity of our supply chain to meet internationally accepted standards.
2025
We will have zero process waste to landfill through circular manufacturing, and become carbon neutral, as reported under SECR.
Sustainability Report
Our annual Sustainability Report summarises our activities, commitments and innovation agenda. All supporting and driving us towards a more sustainable future.
Reclaiming energy is part of our effort under Goal 7 of the UN Global Compact: Affordable and clean energy. Discover more about our thermal energy plant and how it sustainably powers our facilities in our report.
