Drying Team Leader

Role Purpose

The role of the Drying Team Leader is responsible for the day to day safe and efficient operation of the drying lines, reporting to the Production Supervisors. The Team Leader should, at all times, support the Supervisor and be able to deputise for the Supervisor as and when required.

Day to day operation of the Drying area including scheduling of material, maintaining quality of the hides and organising the team. The role will also ensure the drying lines are kept to a high standard, carrying out routine maintenance, always keeping the area clean and customer ready, whilst maintaining accurate and up to date information within the company’s management systems including WIP system.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Embed H&S culture of zero tolerance ensuring the policy is fully understood, owned and implemented by every individual – ensuring machine operators have set up machines correctly and all pre-shift safety checks have been carried out and recorded
  • Promote the use of T-Cards for near miss and hazard reporting– ensuring appropriate feedback and recognition to operators
  • Scheduling of batches through the drying line, liaising with Dye House teams to ensure quick and effective transition of hides
  • Communicating to Production Supervisor if any risk to OTIF
  • Ensuring necessary quality checks are completed to ensure correct moisture and substance quality measurements are maintained, highlighting any non-conformances immediately
  • Carrying out routine maintenance to drying lines and ensuring all operator led maintenance in the area is completed
  • Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of the maintenance and operation of the drying lines
  • Ensuring dried hides are accurately transferred to the correct process steps, and necessary WIP data completed
  • Organising and driving team to deliver targets through effective communication and team work
  • Implement the actions identified through internal and external audits (including health & safety and quality inspections) and ensure they are completed in a timely manner
  • Live and breathe workplace organisation ensuring the drying and dye house area is always customer ready
  • Working closely with the Production supervisor and production lead to implement improvement projects
  • Create an open and honest culture of communications between management and factory employees, always aligned to our core values
  • Deliver optimum results by creating a can-do attitude through motivating, corrective coaching and encouraging employees - highlighting any training gaps to the Production Supervisor / Production Lead
  • Liaising with Maintenance Department to ensure plant and machinery is kept in full working order, ensuring job requests are promptly logged on maintain
  • Complete day to day reporting for the drying area

 

Experience Desired

  • Excellent team player – demonstrating practical leadership of people, product process and plant.
  • Experience in a similar role – preferably in a manufacturing/industrial setting with a good understanding of operational metrics and drivers and the use of KPIs to manage an operation
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond to regularly changing demands
  • Experience of meeting and exceeding health and safety/environmental/ workplace organisation requirements
  • Demonstrable line management skills with a coaching style that gets the best out of people, process and plant. focused on collaboration and continual improvement
  • Able to demonstrate great communication skills with team members, supervisors and other key area of the business
  • Excellent organisational skills
