Scottish Leather Group is steeped in tradition yet has prospered through the years by continuously looking forward.

There is a proud heritage in all of our manufacturing companies, each with its own unique history and although separate companies with their own individual markets and abilities, combined they share the same vision - to be the most successful and respected group of leather manufacturing companies in the world.

The original Tannery founded by John Muirhead at Pollokshaws, Glasgow producing glove and chamois leather, which is exported to North America.

1840

1840
James retires and his youngest son Andrew takes over the business, which he names Andrew Muirhead and Company. The business relocates to Burnmouth Tannery, Spoutmouth - between Duke Street and Gallowgate, Glasgow.

1872

1872
James Lang, a bootmaker in Broomlands with a leather cutting and harness making business in High Street, Paisley purchases Seedhill Tannery and installs his sons William, James and grandson William as partners.

1905

1905
Arthur establishes Bridge of Weir Leather Company at Clydesdale Works, employing 20 people. The company produces leather for ships, railway carriages and local car manufacturers.

1911

Bridge of Weir leather supplied to Ford Motor Company for the Model T.

1936

1936
National Chrome Tanning Company (1936) Ltd is formed with additional investment from two European tanners: Bouvet of Belgium and Costil of France. The company is formed as a subsidiary of Bridge of Weir Leather Company and produces leather for the footwear industry.

1938

1938
RMS Queen Elizabeth launched on the River Clyde, fitted with Bridge of Weir leather.

1940

Andrew Muirhead & Son leather used in the Boeing Stratoliner, the world's first pressurised aircraft.

1965

1965
The Muirhead and Lang families combine to form a group of companies which is named Scottish Tanning Industries Ltd.

1983

1983
The Bridge of Weir Leather Company commences supply of leather to Volvo Car Corporation.

1999

1999
Bridge of Weir leather supplied to the Burj Al Arab hotel, Dubai - The world's only 7 star hotel.

2002

2002
Bridge of Weir Leather Company becomes Aston Martin's sole supplier and commences supply of leather to Mercedes AMG.

2010

2010
Thermal Energy Plant opened by HRH The Princess Royal.

2012

2012
Scottish Leather Group Academy established.

Andrew Muirhead & Son receives ROSPA Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety.
